Someone to talk to, when the loneliness turns up

Loneliness rarely arrives at a convenient hour. It shows up on a Sunday afternoon with nothing in the diary, or at midnight when the flat is too quiet, or in the twenty minutes after a call with family ends.

Ampathe exists for those hours. You pick a companion, you talk for as long as you want, and you pay for the minutes you use. No appointment, no intake form, no explaining yourself to three people first.

You do not need a reason

The most common thing people apologise for is not having a big enough problem. There is no threshold here. "Nothing happened, I just did not want to be by myself this evening" is a complete reason, and it is the one companions hear most.

Nothing is being assessed. There is no progress to report and no homework, which is the difference between this and clinical care — and, for a lot of evenings, the point.

How a conversation starts

You browse companions and read what they say about themselves — what they are good at sitting with, which languages they speak, how they describe their own manner. When someone looks right, you ring them.

  • Chat, voice or video — whichever feels manageable today
  • Billed by the minute from a prepaid wallet, rounded in your favour
  • End whenever you like; nothing keeps running after you leave
  • You appear under a display name you choose, not your real one

If the same person helps, go back to them

Some people want a different voice each time. Others want the one who already knows the shape of things and does not need the backstory again. Both work — companions are listed with their availability, so you can return to the same person when they are online.

FAQs

No. Most conversations on Ampathe are not about a crisis or even a problem — they are about a day that was long, a thought that will not settle, or the plain fact of not having spoken to anyone in a while. You do not have to justify wanting company, and nobody will ask you to.

That is normal, and it is the companion’s job rather than yours. They are trained to start a conversation from nothing and to sit with a silence without filling it anxiously. Plenty of first conversations start with some version of "I do not really know why I am here."

Usually within a minute or two. Companions marked available are ready to talk right then — you pick one and start. There is no appointment, no waiting list and no intake form, which is the main practical difference between this and clinical care.

What Ampathe is not

Ampathe is companionship and peer support. Companions are trained to listen — they do not diagnose, treat, counsel or give medical advice, and Ampathe is not a substitute for therapy or any other clinical care. It is not a dating service, and it is not an emergency service.

If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please call a crisis line instead. Tele-MANAS, the government helpline, is free on 14416 — staffed around the clock, and you do not need an account.
