Talk anonymously, to a real person
Anonymity is not evasiveness. It is what makes it possible to say the true version of something out loud — the resentment, the envy, the thing you would not say to a friend who knows your family.
On Ampathe you appear under a display name you pick. Your legal name is never shown to a companion, and it is never shown to anyone browsing.
What a companion sees
The name you chose, and what you decide to tell them. That is the whole list.
The details we ask for — an email to sign in, a phone number to reach you about a session — exist to run the account, not to be handed to the person you are talking to.
What anonymity does not mean
It does not mean nobody is accountable. Companions are the opposite of anonymous: each is identity-verified, background-checked, trained on boundaries and interviewed before they can take a call. The asymmetry is deliberate — you can be private, and the person listening still has a name and a record.
It also does not mean a conversation is unmoderated. Anything that crosses a line can be reported, and reports are read by people.
Privacy we can actually promise
We will not sell your data, and we do not build an advertising profile from what you talk about. Session content is not used to sell you anything.
What we do keep is deliberately dull: who you spoke to, for how long, and what it cost — the record that makes billing honest and disputes answerable.
FAQs
Yes, as far as the person you are talking to is concerned. Your account carries a generated display name unless you change it, and your companion sees only that. You choose what to tell them and you can tell them nothing. Ampathe itself holds your email and phone number, because payment and account recovery require it.
Not from us. Ampathe has no social features, no contact-list import and no public profile for seekers. Nobody can search for you, see that you have an account, or see who you have talked to. The card statement shows Ampathe, which is worth knowing if the device or the card is shared.
Your companion does not discuss them and cannot see your other conversations. Ampathe staff do not read conversations casually; message content is reachable only when a safety report requires it, and that access is logged. Message bodies are obfuscated rather than encrypted, so treat the platform as private but not as unreadable.
What Ampathe is not
Ampathe is companionship and peer support. Companions are trained to listen — they do not diagnose, treat, counsel or give medical advice, and Ampathe is not a substitute for therapy or any other clinical care. It is not a dating service, and it is not an emergency service.
If you are in crisis or thinking about harming yourself, please call a crisis line instead. Tele-MANAS, the government helpline, is free on 14416 — staffed around the clock, and you do not need an account.
