What a conversation costs

Every companion sets their own rate. Most charge the rates below; some charge less. Their rate is shown on their profile and again on the confirmation screen before a conversation starts, so you never find out the price afterwards.

Your first voice call is on us

Every new account starts with enough credit for a five-minute voice call — a little more on chat, since chat costs less per minute. It is real balance in your wallet rather than a voucher, so you can spend it however you like, and you can find out what a conversation is like before deciding whether it is worth paying for.

How the meter works

The rules below are not policy; they are what the billing code does. They are here because a per-minute meter is exactly the kind of thing people are right to be suspicious of.

  • Billing starts when a companion accepts, not when you call. A ring nobody answers costs nothing.
  • Time is counted in whole seconds, and the cost is rounded down. Rounding never runs in our favour.
  • The rate is fixed when the conversation starts. It is recorded on the session itself, so a companion changing their price mid-conversation cannot affect what you are already paying.
  • Your wallet cannot go negative. The final charge is capped at your balance, and a live meter warns the app as you approach it so the conversation can be wrapped up rather than cut off mid-sentence.
  • Every charge has a ledger entry. Your wallet history shows each conversation, its length and its cost. There are no fees that do not appear there.

Where the money goes

Eighty per cent of what you pay goes to the companion you talked to. The remaining twenty covers identity and background verification, training, payment processing, safety review and running the platform.

We publish the split because a companionship marketplace that will not tell you the split is usually hiding a worse one — and because companions deserve to know what they are earning before they apply, not after. How that verification works is on the companion safety and verification page.

Top-ups and refunds

  • Money you add stays in your wallet until you use it. There is no expiry and no inactivity fee.
  • If a conversation fails because of a technical fault on our side, tell us and we will refund it.
  • If you had to end a conversation because of someone’s behaviour, you should not be paying for it. Report it and we will put the money back.
  • For anything else, write to info@claponn.com and a person will read it.

One thing worth saying about money and loneliness

A per-minute product has an obvious incentive to keep you talking. We try not to act on it: streaks, check-ins and the rest of the free side of Ampathe are not tied to spending, and if your usage climbs sharply the app will say so and point you at free resources rather than at a top-up screen.
